| | i have been around! what do you mean? ok, so i am flagging in my usually impeccable internet kit skills...i'll be better, i promise
so school has been in session for about a month. i really like classes, but i need to worry about getting a job. on campus interviewing was over on monday, but only 1/4-1/3 of the class gets jobs from that, so i'm not too hopeful. still, i went on about 14 or 15 interviews in about 9 days. it could have been worse, most people started interviewing the week before i did...i know someone who had 42 interviews! and out of that, only 2 callbacks. (i also know someone who did like 10 interviews and got 8 callbacks though). since my grades sucked, there were not that many employers whose cutoffs i made...and a lot of the ones i did were ip places, which i did not recognize until it was too late to cancel the interviews. resulted in a lot of conversations like this:
"so you are not taking ip this semester. are you planning to take it next semester?
no
ok well take a free pen."
i also got a free stapler and what might be either lip gloss or shoe polish from a firm i did not even interview with. as well as free nice food from the "hospitality suites" of other firms i did not interview with. and a free post-it pad from the government. if i were a little bolder, i could have gotten a lot of free food out of this. it makes me sad though to see law firms spending money on stuff like this to advertise to law students when there are people who have just lost everything on the gulf coast. it just seems unecessary, i am sure people will still want to work there if you brought some chips ahoy and coke over to chat.
anyway, i am getting many rejection letter now, i actually like getting the mail. just goes to show, rejection does not hurt when you don't want something in the 1st place. |
